Fortune's Weave finally made an appearance again in the form of a trailer in the latest Nintendo Direct! We have new confirmation that the game will follow four main characters: Cai, Dietrich, Theodora, and Leda. Additionally, it appears based on the boxart for the game that our avatar will be named Eshmel. There is still debate as to whether the game is a prequel or a sequel, with evidence of it being a sequel being that the year shown on the UI is later than the years Three Houses takes place in while others believe it is a prequel based on the idea that the years do not follow the same Imperial Calendar seen in Three Houses. It appears that the game will return to using a world map, allowing you to explore different areas of Dagda (and possible return to Fodlan because Enbarr is on the map) and explore real-time dungeons like in Shadows of Valentia. Additionally, it seems you will have a limited number of turns to use to level up and get stronger before needing to advance the story. This is likely here to limit tactics such as boss abuse to gain experience. Many systems from Three Houses will return such as promotion exams and how weapon levels work. While this trailer gave us some good insight on how the game will play, many details are still unknown. Prequel or Sequel? What is the story behind our avatar? Will Edelgard return? Is there a 5th route? We'll find out when Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave releases on 9/17/2026
